However, MS didn't stay watching this and released a similar but much powerful system with new features!
Yes! As we can see the titile, They added 3-D feature into the Virtual Earth.
We can fly among photorealistic buildings because of the future technology of Vexcel.
Vexcel is a digital-imaginary firm and produces specialized digital camera to take a aerial photographs.
Additionally Vexcel makes a 3-D re-creations of urban areas to inform where to position the line-of-sight anetennas of telecom firms.
MS acquired Vexcel and started to add cities to Virtual Earth 3-D.
Of course, this will be a very big long-term project.
(Currently this service is available on only 15 cities of States)

Now, a search giant Google makes it easy to bring the photographs and information such as
traffic, geographic context and weather into the Google Earth.
Thererfore, Google bought SketchUp, a web tool which helps users to create
their own 3-D images of homes and building and add them to Google Earth.
This is a sort of UCC in Google Earth in my opinion.

Google announces that they are adding 16 historic maps of 6 cities, including NY, Tokyo and London
based on the information from map collector, David Rumsey.
We can fly the sky over the forgotten cities 100 years ago through Google 1790.

Article says,
MS is streching out in the third demension and Google is Leaping ahead into the fourth(time).Pay attention to this high-tech mapping race - it promises to take us all in some remarkable directions
I think so! :)
